ABOUT THE ARTIST
|
As a native of the Madawaska Valley, Alfred is unique in his approach to art. His self study of the progression of art through the ages and his divining of an original language in paint he calls 'Algonkin Mosaic' (a reflection of his Algonkin and Kashub roots in the 'Valley'). Alfred creates in his studio and 'en plein aire'(open air). His main subject of desire is painting in Algonquin Provincial Park and capturing the many moods from Spring rains through Winter snows. Either by car, canoe or on foot Alfred as a 'plein aire' painter extracts the true colours from nature as they are perceived on location. His little outdoor paintings (9"X12" birch panels or stretched canvas) are a valuable adjunct when creating colour and sense of place in larger works, back in his studio. He continues to explore the history, heritage and culture of his roots through the metaphorical medium and expression of his being. |
